Consider this checklist a starting point for briefing a Governor-elect before they assume office, to ensure they are prepared on day one as commander-in-chief of their National Guard.

  • Prepare concise review of the legal authorities governing the use of the National Guard in:

    • State Active Duty (SAD)

    • Title 32 United States Code (T32)

    • Title 10 United States Code (T10)

  • Prepare an overview of the process to call the National Guard into State Active Duty.

  • Prepare an overview of the command structure of the National Guard.

  • Prepare a budget overview of the various funding sources of the National Guard.
